A new textbook for the pupils of the Villuercas – Ibores – Jara Geopark (Spain)

Primary and High Schools of Villuercas – Ibores – Jara have already the new textbook “Environmental Awareness of Villuercas – Ibores – Jara Geopark” . It is an educational tool for teachers and students useful in the Environmental Awareness’ subject which is taken during the last years of Primary education and, also, for the subjects of Natural Sciences and Social Sciences during the Secondary first two years.

The book reviews the contents of those subjects using as examples the natural and social processes that happened in Villuercas – Ibores – Jara. Thus, its chapters explain the concepts of geology by the Geopark geological values, they introduce the pupils to the different ecosystems helping them to identify the main representatives of the local flora and fauna and, finally, the textbook make a review of the history, traditions and local economy. Obviously, it also have a chapter on Geoparks, explaining the importance of feeling protagonist to live in and being responsible for their preservation and progress.

It was written by members of the Geopark’s Education and Science Committee and led by Professor Jose Maria Corrales, University of Extremadura, Department of Natural Sciences’ Pedagogy. The next step in the educational project will be the compilation of the complementary Activities Book.
