  • News

Next Saturday afternoon, Sant Domènec Square in Manresa will  host the first Gastronomic Fair of Geopark, a place of sale, tasting and activities of producers and food processors of the Geopark territory, that includes Bages, Moianès and Collbató. The Councillor for Tourism of Bages County Council, Sandra Oliva, has said that “the public will have an opportunity to discover the culinary heritage of the Geopark territory with a wide offer”.

The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the Geopark own products. More than twenty stalls will exhibit, sell and offer tasting of wines, oils, garden products, bread, milk, honey, sausages, etc. All these merchants form part of the project “Rebost del Bages” (led by the Bages County Council), which aims to boost the agricultural production quality, to divulge de handmade production and to promote the recovery of local traditional varieties. From the Bages Association of Producers and agri-food Processors, Enric Casasayas has said that “with this fair we get to influence in the timing of the product with a good range of garden products in the territory.” Casasayas has also said that “we have to grow little by little and achieve that the Bages people order these products in the restaurants. Hereafter we will have to believe in it. ”

The stall area will have a space for gastronomy workshops where you can do oil tastings and learn how to make a cake quickly, and children’s workshops focused on leisure and educational activities of the Collbato Saltpetre Caves and Moià Toll Caves.

Tasting products

In addition, visitors can taste the products in all the stalls by buying a ticket that costs 1 euro (wine tickets will cost 3 euros, two of which will be given back if the visitor returns the glass afterwards).

At the fair there will also be an institutional stall of the Geopark of Central Catalonia that will also serve as a point of information and sale of tickets.

With this initiative, the Geopark of Central Catalonia (the first and only one in Catalonia which is part of the European Geoparks Network and has the backing of UNESCO) aims to highlight the typical food products of the territory.

The Geopark of Central Catalonia includes Bages, Moianès and the municipality of Collbató and works actively for the protection and promotion of its geological heritage but with a global territorial strategy for sustainable economic development. Thus, besides geotourism, the Geopark promotes the municipalities in all the areas: food, landscape, service, traditions, local products, etc.

The 1st Gastronomic Fair of the Geopark will be open from 4pm to 9 pm, at Sant Domènec Square in Manresa. Programs and schedules of the workshops can be found in the following web: www.geoparc.cat
