Volcanological Center of El Hierro Geopark‏

The new “Volcanological Centre of El Hierro” inaugurated on 21st February 2015 by Jose Manuel Soria, Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, and Alpidio Armas, President of El Hierro Island.  The new “Vulcanological Centre of El Hierro” is a museum which, thanks to technology, offers to the tourist an interactive experience to discover canarian volcanism and to revive memories of the underwater eruption next to La Restinga coast in 2011.

This Volcanological Centre, together with the recent declaration of the island as a Geopark by EGN/GGN operating in synergy with UNESCO, give El Hierro a character of a nature and geological interest destination.

The Centre has two different buildings connected by an interpretative path in a volcanic field.

The first one shows Canarian Volcanism, particularly the volcanism which formed El Hierro Island. Technology gives a unique experience thanks to an interactive wall showing different volcanic landscapes. There’s a presence detector similar to a Kinect and the screen provides the visitor information with texts and photos.

The second one, consists in an audiovisual spectacle with images reproducing La Restinga underwater volcanic eruption. Sound and images take the visitor to a singular and natural phenomenon, starting with a slightly bubbling before the eruption starts.
