The Sobrarbe County Council is already integrated as a member of the European Route of Megalithic Culture”

The European Route of Megalithic Culture serves as a platform for museums, Geoparks, scientists, and experts in tourism from Denmark, England, Germany, TheNetherlands, Sweden and now Spain to underline the outstanding importance of themegalithic culture for European history, to rediscover and promote the tourism valueof its monuments and, in this way, improve their protection as part of the commoncultural heritage.

The goal of the Association Megalithic Routes is to link together a selection ofthe oldest monuments of Europe by cultural routes which not only lead to themegalithic monuments but also highlight the manifold features of the surroundinglandscape. Throughout Europe there is a close link between the origin of megalithicmonuments and the early history of the cultural landscape: both begin at the sametime and symbolise the first efforts of human communities to tame nature and shapethe natural environment.

The “Megalithic Routes” project is committed to the principles of “low-impacttourism” and refrains from any irreversible measures affecting the naturalenvironment when developing opportunities for tourism.

Dolmens, stones circles as Losa La Campa in Tella, Caseta de las Balanzas inAlmazorre, Dolmen de Pueyoril in Arcusa or La Capilleta in Paules de Sarsa are someof the monuments that you visit frequently in Sobrarbe.

More than 50% of the area in Sobrarbe has been declared legally protected,especially outstanding are its glaciers on Monte Perdido, the Posets-Maladeta National Park, the Sierra and Cañones de Guara Nature Reserve and particularly,the Ordesaand Monte Perdido National Park (declared a World Heritage Site and BiosphereReserve by UNESCO). In addition there are more than 25 areas of the NATURA 2000Network, Sobrarbe Geopark and now Megalithic Route.
