International Mother Earth Day 2023:
Activities & Events of the UNESCO Global Geoparks of Europe

Our planet Earth with its unique history and complex ecosystems is home of all creatures. The annual “Mother Earth Day” reminds us of protecting and preserving our environment, which is the precondition for all life. As model territories for the Global Agenda 2030, defined by 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the UNESCO Global Geoparks in Europe and worldwide contribute to awareness building and responsibility by numerous events and activities. Celebrating our Mother Earth is essential part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks´ philosophy.

The Adventure Geotopes Daiting were developed as part of the cooperative nature conservation project “from wounds in the landscape to nature paradises”. Two mascots lead the way along a nature trail

and explain geology, natural and settlement history, plus safety and conservation

behavior now.

Da Voar Redd Up is the UK’s most successful community litter-picking event, with around 4,500 people volunteering each year.
