The Upper Cretaceous
Limestone Quarry Salzgitter-Salder: The Geopark Harz . Braunschweiger Land . Ostfalen went on with the development of new geo-trails near Königslutter, Salzgitter, Braunschweig, Stolberg and at the Unicorn Cave/Harz. The project of the “16 Landmarks” was supplemented and partially renewed. More than 700,000 landmark-leaflets were distributed by the end of 2006.
The highlights of 2006 were:
- Start of the unemployment-project “50 Top”, an integration project for unemployed-people in cooperation with the cities Salzgitter, Braunschweig and the rural district Wolfenbüttel.
- Appointment of the corporate Geopark advisory board
- Commendation of the most important geotopes of Germany with seven geotopes in the Geopark.
- Opening of the “Ice Age Garden” in Salzgitter-Salder
