This was another year of steady development in the Psiloritis Geopark. Most of the activities were related to the implementation of the actions of the Interreg IIIc common project and others to public information and education, as well as to cultural events.

Highlights included:

  1. Organization of a workshop in Margarites village on February 2006, dedicated to the inclusion of local products in the Geopark initiative, with speakers invited from Vulkaneifel, Bergstrasse – Odenwald and Reserve Geologique de Haute Provence Geoparks. An accompanying publication was produced.
  2. Organisation of a meeting and publication of a proceedings booklet on the development of alternative tourism in Psiloritis Mountain. Speakers from Lesvos Petrified Forest, Marble Arch and Eisenwurtzen Geoparks presented their experiences.
  3. The proceedings of the 4th EGN International Meeting were published in April 2006 under the Interreg IIIC common project.
  4. Support and co-organisation with the Municipality of Rouvas for the August open air painting festival. During the festival painters from several geoparks were hosted for a week and painted open air surfaces in Gergeri village inspired by local landscape, culture and traditions.
