Call for Expressions of Interest, Social Media Manager | European Geoparks Network (EGN) [Call closed]

Background

The European Geoparks Network (EGN) is the European regional network of the Global Geoparks Network, bringing together UNESCO Global Geoparks, territories of outstanding geological heritage that are committed to conservation, education, sustainable development, and international cooperation. Established in 2000, the Network promotes the protection and interpretation of Europe’s geological and cultural heritage through collaborative initiatives, knowledge exchange, scientific cooperation, and sustainable geotourism.

To strengthen its visibility, engage diverse audiences, and effectively communicate its activities, projects, and achievements, the European Geoparks Network seeks to engage a qualified Social Media Manager to develop and implement a coordinated digital communication strategy across its official social media platforms.

Scope of Services

The selected Social Media Manager will be responsible for planning, creating, publishing and monitoring content across EGN’s official social media channels, currently including:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn

The assignment will include, but not be limited to:

Strategic Planning

  • Develop a monthly editorial calendar.
  • Participate in monthly online planning meetings with the EGN Communications Working Group.
  • Align content with EGN priorities, campaigns, international days, projects and events.

Content Creation

The Contractor shall create and publish a minimum average of fifteen (15) original social media posts per month. Reposts, shares, or other forms of content redistribution shall not be counted towards this minimum. All posts shall be relevant, engaging, and aligned with the EGN communication strategy. Original posts may include a combination of:

  • static posts
  • carousels
  • short videos/Reels
  • educational graphics
  • institutional announcements

Content will be based primarily on material provided by the EGN and its member Geoparks, with additional editing, graphic design, and adaptation by the Contractor where necessary.

Copywriting

Prepare engaging English-language captions suitable for different audiences while maintaining a professional and educational tone.

Graphic Design & Video Editing

Produce platform-ready visual content including:

  • image editing
  • graphic design
  • simple animations where appropriate
  • subtitle insertion
  • short-form video editing

Publishing

  • Schedule and publish approved content.
  • Ensure consistency across platforms.
  • Optimise publication timing.

Reporting

Provide a monthly report including:

  • reach
  • impressions
  • engagement
  • audience growth
  • recommendations for improvement

Deliverables

The monthly deliverables are expected to include:

  • Monthly content plan
  • A minimum average of fifteen (15) completed original social media posts per month. (graphics/videos/captions)
  • Scheduling and publication
  • Monthly analytics report
  • Participation in one monthly coordination meeting

Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate:

Essential

  • Proven experience managing institutional social media accounts.
  • Excellent English writing skills.
  • Experience producing visual content using professional design software.
  • Experience editing short-form video.
  • Knowledge of Meta Business Suite and LinkedIn.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with an international network.

Desirable

  • Experience with environmental, heritage, tourism or cultural organisations.
  • Familiarity with UNESCO programmes.
  • Experience communicating EU-funded projects.
  • Knowledge of geotourism, sustainability or protected areas.

Contract Duration

The initial contract will be for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and budget availability.

Budget

Applicants should submit:

  • a monthly fee (EUR, excluding VAT where applicable);
  • an indication of any additional hourly rate for services outside the agreed scope.

Proposal Requirements

Interested applicants should submit:

  1. Technical proposal (maximum 5 pages) including:
    • understanding of the assignment;
    • proposed methodology;
    • monthly workflow;
    • examples of content strategy;
    • reporting approach.
  2. Financial proposal.
  3. CV.
  4. Portfolio including links to social media accounts managed.
  5. Two references from previous clients.

Notes

The Social Media Manager will work closely with the EGN Coordinators, the Working Group on Communication and member Geoparks. Primary audiovisual material will generally be provided by EGN, while the contractor will be responsible for adapting, editing, designing, copywriting, publishing and reporting. Community management (continuous responses to comments and direct messages), on-site photography or videography, advanced advertising campaigns and large-scale communication campaigns are outside the core scope unless specifically agreed.

Applications must be submitted within 15 calendar days following the publication of this Call for Expressions of Interest, by 23:59 CET. Any application received after the submission deadline shall be considered inadmissible.
