Cabo de Gata-Nijar and Sierras Subbéticas Geoparks held on Saturday and Sunday 7- 8 May, as in other parts of the Spanish, the Geolodía 11, an initiative for popularization Geology, comprising a series of free tours, led by geologists and open to all audiences.
With the celebration on this Geological Day is intended to inform the participants some of the processes of the functioning of the Earth through the effects on the surface, as well as the rich and varied geological heritage of Andalusia, to become aware of its importance and necessity to protect it.
Geolodía 11 promoters are: the Geological Society of Spain (SGE), as coordinator, the Spanish Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences (AEPECT) and the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME). In the provinces, the geologists who organize the trips belong to various universities, scientific institutions, cultural associations, professional associations or regional or provincial administrations.
All trips of Geolodía 11 will be free and open to all ages and will include a field trip, with stops explaining the geology of the sites, so good footwear is recommended.
