Magma UNESCO Global Geopark is part of the RURITAGE project

  • News

Magma UNESCO Global Geopark is one of six replicators in the RURITAGE project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 and led by the University of Bologna. RURITAGE has identified six Systemic Innovation Areas which will be used as a generator for economic, social and environmental development of these rural areas. Magma Geopark is replicator mainly for local food, but other European Geoparks are participating in other SIA’s: Geo-Naturpark Bergstrasse-Odenwald and ARGE Geopark Karawanken/Karavanke. UNESCO Global Geopark Haute Provence, Lesvos Island UNESCO Global Geopark and Katla UNESCO Global Geopark are involved in the project as role models.

The RURITAGE project will use the knowledge built in fourteen role models, and digested within the project, and transfer it to the six replicators. The role models will mentor and support the replicators in the development and implementation of their strategies, and at the same time increase their own knowledge and capacities.

The RURITAGE project is a four year project, running until June 2022.
