20th Anniversary celebration of the registration of “Pirineos-Monte Perdido” on the UNESCO World Heritage list

In December 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of the registration of “Pirineos-Monte Perdido” on the UNESCO World Heritage list. With this reason an activity was organized during the days 6 and 7 of October of 2017 with the aim of celebrating it in the own territory through a cross-border encounter that puts in value this characteristic of our World Heritage Property.

Two days of celebration to approach the circus of Gavarnie and Troumouse and tour the Geo Route of the Port of Bujaruelo (from the Col de Tentes to the shelter of Bujaruelo), accompanied by guides of the Parc National des Pyrénées, Gavarnie Tourist Office-Gèdre, the historian Jean François Le Nail and the geologists Joseph Canérot and Ánchel Belmonte.

This activity is part of the Pyrenees-Monte Perdido, World Heritage 2 (PMPPM2) cross-border cooperation project, approved in the European Interreg V-A Spain-France-Andorra program of POCTEFA 2014-2020, whose objective is tourism, environmental and cultural valorization of the Well “Pirineos-Monte-Perdido”. It is financed by Comarca de Sobrarbe, the Department of Hautes Pyrénées and 65% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the border area Spain-France-Andorra. Its assistance focuses on the development of cross-border economic, social and environmental activities through joint strategies for sustainable territorial development.
